Bailey, widely considered one of the premiere cellists in the world with his rare combination of celebrated artistry, technical wizardry, as well as his engaging personality has secured his place as one of the most sought after and active cellists today.
Bailey grew up in Northern Virginia, where he was influenced and inspired by Rostropovich, who was then director of the National Symphony and by his musical family. His mother is a pianist, his father has a Doctorate in both music and education and his sister is a violinist.

The pair will perform selections that include Bach Suites, the music of Billie Holiday and selections from their CD titled, "Some Other Time." As an energetic four-year-old, while running furiously down a back hallway following a concert, Bailey had his first "run- in " with a cello. The instrument was broken following the encounter but not Bailey's spirit. He announced then that the cello would be his instrument of choice. And the rest is history.
Now a distinguished soloist, recitalist, artistic director and teacher, the consummate concerto soloist has been featured with the symphony orchestras of Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, Indianapolis, Dallas, Louisville, Honolulu, Milwaukee, Nashville, Toronto, Minnesota, Utah, Israel, Cape Town, and the Bruchner Orchestra in Linz, Austria. He has collaborated with such conductors as Itzhak Perlman, Alan Gilbert, Andrew Litton, James DePriest, Jun Markl, Carlos Kalmar, Jacques Lacombe, Grant Llewellyn and Stanislav Skrowaczewski. He also has been featured with musical luminaries Leon Fleisher, Jaime Laredo, the Juilliard String Quartet, Lynn Harrell and Janos Starker.
American pianist Lara Downes has garnered wide acclaim as one of the most exciting and communicative pianists of today's generation, lauded by National Public Radio as "a delightful artist with a unique blend of musicianship and showmanship", and praised by the New York Times for her "loving attention to mood and color." Downes' innovative explorations of the piano repertoire — from iconic favorites to newly commissioned works — bridge musical genres, traditions and audiences.
A shorter version of the concert will be presented at 2 p.m. on Oct. 13 at Carrizozo School Old Gym for students in K-12 and members of the community.
Both concerts are free and open to the public, however, reservations are suggested. The evening performance will be followed by a reception and an opportunity to meet the musicians.
To reach both venues, turn West at 12th Street, between the 54 Emporium and Roy's Ice Cream Parlor. Turn right onto D Avenue and drive two blocks to the church and school, both located at the corner of 10th Street and D Avenue.
