Carrizozo Music is pleased to announce that Willy and Friends will perform Baroque Trios on Friday, June 3 at 7 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church. Featuring Willy Sucre, viola, Terry Pruitt, double bass and Deborah Hanna, piano, the trio will play Georg Philip Telemann's Viola Concerto in G Major, Gioachino Rossini's Duetto in D major for Viola and Bass, and Sinfonia Concertante for Viola and Bass in D major by Karl Dieters von Dittersdorf. This concert is sponsored by Tularosa Basin Telephone Company and is free and open to the public.
Violist Willy Sucre is a member of the New Mexico Philharmonic and is the driving force behind the "Willy Sucre & Friends" concerts. Born in La Paz, Bolivia, Sucre studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in La Paz, Colby College Chamber Music Institute in Waterville, Maine, Mannes School of Music in New York, and the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore,Maryland. He has been conductor and music director of the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, assistant conductor and principal violist of the Canada Symphony Orchestra in Montreal, assistant conductor and assistant principal violist of the former New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, principal violist and guest conductor of the National Symphony of Bolivia, the Chamber Orchestra of La Paz, and the Albuquerque Chamber Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Sucre was the founder of the Cuarteto Boliviano, guest violist with various chamber music ensembles, and for ten years the violist of the Helios String Quartet. His experience includes extensive chamber music concerts, lectures and school demonstrations, CD recordings, and television performances throughout South, Central, and North America. Sucre spends most of his summers in South America looking for new works of chamber music by modern composers and encouraging composers to write new pieces, especially piano quartets. He enjoys performing with ensembles of diverse instrumentation.
Terry Pruitt is Principal Double Bass with the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra as well as a member of the New Mexico Philharmonic. While completing his Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance at Southern Illinois University, Terry studied with Henry Loew, Principal Double Bass of the St. Louis Symphony, and performed with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra. After completing his first professional season with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Terry won the position of Principal Double Bass with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra where he performed for the next fifteen years. During summer seasons, Terry has performed as Principal Double Bass with the International String Orchestra in Eisenstadt, Austria as well as Bear Lake Music Festival in Utah. Since 1989, he has returned regularly to Santa Cruz, California, for the Cabillo Festival of Contemporary Music. Since moving to New Mexico in 1996, Terry has played with various orchestras and chamber groups, including Santa Fe Pro Musica, El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Roswell Symphony Orchestra, San Juan Symphony and the Clocktower Music Festival in Durango, Colorado. He still continues to teach privately.
Deborah Lipton Hanna, piano, holds degrees in Piano from Oberlin Conservatory and University of Texas at Austin. During more than thirty years in Minnesota, she performed and participated in chamber music recitals and sessions with members of both the Minnesota and Saint Paul Chamber orchestras. Since moving to New Mexico in 2009, Deborah has performed in chamber music concerts in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and enjoys accompanying for dance classes and instrumental recitals and contests. She has been a staff accompanist for National Dance Institute of New Mexico since 2011, and performed in their recent production of Carnival of the Animals. From 2010 to 2013, she played for company classes and performances of National Ballet of Mexico in Ballet Pro Musica productions at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
Other concerts in the Carrizozo Music 2016 season include Paul Pino and the Tone Daddies who will play on the porch of the Carrizozo Woman's Club during the annual 4th of July BBQ, prior to the fireworks at a special Portico Concert. Taylor Rae Stearns, runner-up in American Idols, will sing and perform soft rock on July 29. Dixieland is featured on September 1 with Jim Shearer and the Second Line Survivors. Late September brings the Ying Quartet, resident string quartet and faculty at Eastman School of Music, and in October, The Altura Winds, will perform woodwind and piano quintets.
A new venture for Carrizozo Music is a collaboration with Mountain Entertainment for the Arts to bring NM Philharmonic cellist Joel Becktell and pianist Amy Greer to perform at Sacred Grounds Coffee and Tea House, on Sunday, July 17 at 4 pm in an intimate chamber concert.
